In a post on the game's official site, creator Edmund McMillen revealed that the game isn't simply a port, but has instead been rebuilt.
Plot
Come to Super Meat Boy Forever; you will enter a world of “meat” with the same expressions human. And you will start the game with a beautiful story about the lovely family of Meat Boy and Bandage Girl. They have an adorable daughter, the Nugget. This is a happy family; all members love each other. Unfortunately, Dr Fetus again shows his fury still, but this time he plans to kidnap the Meat Boy Nugget and Bandage Girl and plot to throw their little daughter on the grinder. When they regained consciousness, the two decided to find the evil doctor’s lair and save his little daughter. At this point, you will be portrayed as Meat Boy and begin the path of seeing his daughter.
You will have to overcome six challenging levels and the next; the challenge becomes more difficult. The doctor’s traps on the way to his lair were so unbearable, with sharp gear and shape that prevented anyone from doing so. And Meat Boy is no exception; you have to help him overcome the obstacles by jumping, sliding through the trap and blowing the ugly creatures that blocked the path of the guy. Believing that with love for her little daughter and the bravery of the Meat Boy, can help her father love her daughter to the place where Dr Fetus detained the girl and save her. Or not? Super Meat Boy, the phenomenally difficult but incredibly addictive platform game for PC, Xbox 360 and Mac, is coming to iOS and other touchscreen platforms (believed to be Android, at least). However, rather than simply port the existing game, developer Team Meat is building a completely new version to better fit mobile devices.
'We have been playing with the idea of porting SMB to the iPhone for some time,' says Team Meat in a posting on its official blog.
'Sadly, there was no way of doing this without the game becoming a pile of garbage. Super Meat Boy is a twitch platformer with precision controls, there was no way in hell this would work on a touchscreen with buttons all over it. Super Meat Boy isn't a game we want to make a sub-par version of just to cash in... So, we decided to totally remake the whole game instead, from the ground up!'
The developer goes on to say that the new version, Super Meat Boy: The Game, is being specifically designed to work with touch controls. What it isn't creating is 'a shitty port of an existing game with non-tactile buttons spread all over the screen blocking the players view and making for frustrating controls'.
Die-hard fans are also warned that the final iOS/other platforms platform game (ahem) will be missing some aspects of the original, but it will feature entirely new art.
There's no date on the game's release as of yet, but we can't wait.
